Gyles & George is British knitwear with a sense of humour. The label has been a favourite among pop-stars and royalty since the 1980s, counting Princess Diana and Elton John among its fans. Its quirky designs — including the famous “I’m A Luxury” sweater — are the creations of George Hostler, an artist and sculptor, and Gyles Brandreth, founder of Britain’s Teddy Bear Museum. Gyles & George is a unisex brand, and each of its sweaters is lovingly handmade in Portugal.

Gyles Brandreth – a writer, entertainer, broadcaster, and sometime Member of British Parliament – is also a former European Monopoly champion; founder of an award-winning teddy bear museum; president of both the Oscar Wilde Society and the Association of British Scrabble Players; a renowned expert on Winnie the Pooh and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland; and former Lord Commissioner of the Treasury in the British government.

George Hostler was a sculptor by training who, having exhibited in Britain, in Europe, and in Australia, eventually decided to abandon his hammer and chisel in favour of knitting needles. He was one of the world’s most sought after and admired knitwear designers, whose work was worn by the beautiful and famous on both sides of the Atlantic – not least, of course, by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales.
