Gyles & George is British knitwear with a sense of humour, designed to make people smile.
In the early 1980s, Gyles Brandreth and George Hostler teamed up to create a range of original jumpers featuring bright colours, droll phrases, visual puns, and trompe l’oeil images. Over the years, the pair designed hundreds of individual “wit knits" — many of which were worn by contemporary luminaries like Elton John and Diana, Princess of Wales, who popularized the now-iconic “I’m a Luxury” sweater — and produced four books featuring their charmingly cheeky and colourful patterns.
After a hiatus, the brand is now sharing its beloved retro designs with a new generation. Its 100% lambswool and cotton sweaters and accessories feature the same designs that made the original jumpers so popular; now, over 40 years later, Gyles & George’s “joyful jumpers” are still making people smile.
